August News

Gardening News

Whilst we have been away our raised beds have been producing delicious fruits and vegetables. The Gardening Club resumed on the first week of term and harvested a wide variety of produce, some of which they have given to Lorna our school cook and some to take home to taste and enjoy for themselves.  The cabbages this year are enormous and the garden peas are crunchy and sweet. Mrs Murray also received a beautiful bunch of freshly picked Jubilee roses for her office.

Keep Houston Healthy

Houston Primary School is a health promoting school and we continue to participate in the daily mile, and positively encourage as many children as possible to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

Keep Houston Tidy

Each week a year group is responsible for weeding, recycling and litter picking within our school grounds. This ensures that our environment remains a pleasant one. We are supported and very much appreciate the work of the Community Council and senior pupils from Gryffe High School who are also helping to keep Houston tidy. Whilst out and about as part of our Forest Schools initiative the staff, parents and pupils were shocked by the amount of litter and household waste that had been dumped in and around forested areas of Houston. The pupils were pro-active and filled sixteen bin bags filled with litter. The Primary 4 pupils have also made posters which are on display in and around Houston village.
