Farewell Primary 7

Today is a very special day for our P7 pupils, and to mark this occasion, we planted a plum tree in our school grounds. Next to the tree is a QR code, time capsule. Please take time to have a look at it, as it contains their memories of 2022-23.

We wish all of our P7 pupils every success at secondary.
Have a lovely summer holiday from all at Houston Primary School.

Gardening Club Parental Engagement Event

The Gardening Club members enjoyed showing round their parents and a few guests from the community; Bee Happy group members and Mr & Mrs Crawford.

It was a busy day, as well as showing everyone round the various parts of the garden, the children thinned the radish, planted more leeks, lifted lettuce, watered all plants in poly tunnel, picked strawberries and a very few raspberries, tied up sunflowers and planted marigolds at front entrance.
First harvest is always exciting. Phew!

Gardening fun

On Thursday we were very busy despite the heat. As well as lifting, washing, drying and weighing the potatoes, there was a lot of watering done. We finished planting out the leeks and beetroot seedlings and some runner beans; and we weeded a couple of beds too!

Potato Competition

Just a wee update on the competition potatoes. This year there is only one prize for the heaviest weight, UK wide.

Our best this year was 1676g (Shannon) and 793 (Casablanca). So we are well up on our previous best by around 1150g.

On the Move!

Our Eco representatives helped to move soil from our old raised beds to our newly situated larger raised beds down beside the poly tunnel. Meanwhile another team of diggers filled up the new beds with top soil. What a job!
